Haas could replace Mick Schumacher with five drivers including an ex-F1 star backed by Lewis Hamilton. Team boss Guenther Steiner has yet to confirm Schumacher will leave the team but has failed to back his driver when asked about his future. It is understood Haas is also holding talks with other drivers in a suggestion they could replace the former F2 champion.
Steiner conceded Hulkenberg was an option for Haas next season after a range of stand-in appearances since 2020. The German stood in for Sergio Perez when he caught coronavirus two seasons ago, impressing Lewis Hamilton on his return, who said Hulkenberg was a “great driver”.
He explained: “When you don’t know the car, you don’t know the tools you have or the simulation the team uses… I can’t even tell you how far behind he is with that. But he is a great driver and if anyone can do it it’ll be him, for sure.” Hulkenberg also stepped in for Sebastian Vettel earlier this season when his compatriot caught Covid.

The former Alfa Romeo star drove for the team at FP1 in Monza, setting a time just 0.3 seconds slower than regular driver Kevin Magnussen. Giovinazzi will get another FP1 appearance at the United States Grand Prix which could suggest he is in line for a seat.
Team boss Steiner said Giovinazzi did a “good job” but stressed his appearances were directed by Ferrari and not from Haas. He commented: “People think too deep into it. It was more that Ferrari asked us to run their reserve driver, it was not ‘now we need to test him and take a conclusion out of this.”
The Haas reserve driver stepped into a race seat at the 2020 Sakhir Grand Prix after Romain Grosjean’s huge crash in Bahrain a week earlier. However, there are some sources who claim Fittipaldi’s arrival could be part of a new sponsorship deal for the team.
It comes after Nikita Mazepin was sacked by the team ahead of the new season despite bringing UralKali sponsorship money.

Ricciardo claimed his phone had been busy ahead of the Belgian Grand Prix after the Australian was axed by McLaren for rookie Oscar Piastri. Karun Chandhok has suggested the former Red Bull star should end up at the American team as rumours circulated about a reserve role with Mercedes.
He said: “I would like to see him [race next year]. Even if it means going to somewhere like Haas, who are not championship contenders but they have shown this year on several occasions the car is perfectly capable of scoring points.”
Nyck de Vries
The Dutchman starred on his F1 debut at the Italian Grand Prix, picking up points for Williams as Nicholas Latifi languished in P15. Ex-Formula E champion De Vries has also enjoyed FP1 appearances with Williams, Aston Martin and Mercedes this season.
