Carlos Sainz has revealed what he tells himself when he experiences difficult days at Ferrari.

Ferrari have been no strangers to misfortune this season, with their championship aspirations threatening to disappear after a string of defeats to rivals Red Bull and Max Verstappen.

Despite the strong car performance, Sainz and teammate Charles Leclerc have suffered from technical failures, strategic errors, grid penalties, and driving mistakes in an up-and-down season for Ferrari.

On top of the car and team concerns, Sainz has also found himself broadly out-paced by Leclerc in 2022, and appears close to becoming the support driver for his teammate.

The phrase Sainz repeats on "not quite right days"

Speaking in an interview with GQ, the 27-year-old revealed that in tough times he has a phrase that he says to himself.

Sainz reasoned that having an expression to say to yourself helps “if on a given day I feel tired, or sad, or maybe something’s not quite right with me, if I’m in a bad mood and I don’t know why”.

He then revealed what he says to himself during the tougher times.

“S**t, I’m a Ferrari driver,” Sainz stated.

“I’m in Maranello. I’m going to drive a simulator today. I’m going to test the car. And soon I’m gonna race.”
