Ecclestone: Hamilton? F1 needs someone of colour, someone Chinese and a woman

The ongoing feud between Bernie Ecclestone and Lewis Hamilton shows no signs of ending in the near future after the former F1 boss hit back at the Mercedes star.

The two have been at odds following Ecclestone‘s recent defence of Vladimir Putin and Nelson Piquet.

“I’d still take a bullet for him [Putin],” Ecclestone said on Good Morning Britain.

“I’d rather it didn’t hurt, but I would still take a bullet.”

Hamilton responded to those comments by stating that voices like this, and also voices like Piquet, who used racist terms when talking about the Mercedes star, should not be given coverage.

Rather than keeping quiet, Ecclestone has fired back, speaking to Blick.

Lewis has forgotten a lot,” he said.

“When Mercedes didn’t pay him what he asked for, I immediately said I’d pay the difference.

“Because Formula 1 needs a person of colour, a Chinese and a woman.”

Ecclestone doubles down in his defence of Putin

Ecclestone also stood by his recent defence of Putin, stating the Russian has always been fair to F1.

“Yes, maybe I’m not sensitive enough,” he said.

“I see many things differently, and I say them because I was asked so nicely.

“But I do stand by one statement. Putin was always fair to Formula 1. I can’t say that about all the promoters.”
